Cat Care Hacks

There are certainly many things to love about our feline friends. Their loving purrs, hilarious antics, and amusing quirks are all wonderful qualities! While Fluffy is fairly independent, it’s always helpful to learn some new tips to make caring for her a little easier. Here, a local Isle of Palms, SC vet lists some cat care hacks.

Keeping Kitty Off Your Desk

Does your cat tend to ‘supervise’ you while you are at your computer? Get an empty box and put it on your desk. Then, just tell Fluffy not to get into it. Your kitty will probably immediately curl up in the box, and stay there!

DIY Kitty Tent

Did you know that you can make a cute pet tent out of an old tee shirt and a wire hangar? Kitties love small spaces, so this is a purrfect rainy day project for people with cats.

Easy Scratching Post

To make a simple nail care station, just attach some carpet scraps to a smooth board, and then nail it to the wall, just above kitty height. Voila!

Litter Traps

Does your kitty track litter all over the floor? Get some rubber garage tiles, the kind with holes in them, and place them under the litterbox. They’ll capture the litter, and are easy to vacuum up. Trimming your cat’s toe hair will also help reduce tracking.

Fur Buster

To remove pet fur from furniture or upholstery, put on a rubber dish glove and rub your hand across the material. A damp sponge will also work well, as will a squeegee.

Cat Mat

When you are ready to get a new litterbox, upcycle the old one by turning it into a planter. Wash and rinse it, and then add soil and wheatgrass seeds. Your cat will soon have a comfy, edible bed!

Hiding Fluffy’s Powder Room

Repurpose an old piece of furniture, such as an end table with doors. Cut a hole in one side for Fluffy, and put the litterbox inside it.

Scratch Buster

Is your furry friend scratching the side of your sofa or loveseat? Put clear, two-sided tape up in the place she is scratching. Fluffy will likely hate the sticky feeling, and look for another manicure station.
