5 Reasons to Play With Your Cat Every Day

If there’s one thing we can say for sure about kitties, it’s that they are absolutely adorable. Fluffy is especially cute when she is feeling playful! It’s hard not to smile when watching a frisky feline pouncing on a catnip mouse or a wand toy. However, playing isn’t just fun for Fluffy: it’s also beneficial for her. Read on as an Isle of Palms, SC vet lists some great reasons to play with your cat every day.

Exercise

As you may have noticed, our feline pals are, well, rather sleepy. Fluffy can snooze up to 20 hours a day! Catching Z’s doesn’t burn anywhere near the amount of calories that catching mice does, so it’s important for you to keep your pet active. Otherwise, she may become obese, which would be very bad for her health. Even just a few minutes of playtime a day will be beneficial.

Entertainment

We know, cats seem to really like doing as little as possible, but believe it or not, they can get bored. Playing is a great way to keep your kitty amused and happy, and keep that little motor going.

Stimulation

Kitties really have to concentrate to time their pounces just right. Nailing a run/jump/pounce combination can be pretty tricky! Playing offers your pet mental stimulation, which is great for her mind. This can also help ward off the cognitive decline some cats experience as they grow old.

Bonding

When you take time to hold a laser pointer for Fluffy, or dangle a wand toy for her to bat at, she’ll know that you’re doing something just for her benefit. You’ll be rewarded with purrs and cuddles, which are both priceless gifts as far as we are concerned!

It’s Fun!

Last but not least, playing with your cat is likely to put a smile on your face! Cats are super cute when they’re pouncing on a toy mouse, or chasing that pesky red dot from a laser pointer. Make a habit of playing with your kitty every day, perhaps while you’re relaxing with a good book or watching TV. This may be just as much fun for you as it is for Fluffy!
