Fluffy’s Plans for World Domination

Did you know that June 24th is Cat World Domination Day? Our feline pals may look cute and innocent, but they may have some very big plans for us! Is Fluffy secretly plotting to take over the world? In this article, an Isle of Palms, SC vet discusses Fluffy’s plans for world domination.

The Internet

You don’t have to look very far to find the first bit of evidence for Fluffy’s world domination plan. Our feline friends have taken over a fairly impressive amount of the internet! Every day, one can find more charming videos of cats being their adorable, silly selves. The web has also seen the rise of some super cute kitty celebrities, such as the lovably cranky Grump Cat, the box-obsessed Maru, and, of course, the dour Colonel Meow. One has to wonder if Fluffy’s habit of sitting or sleeping on our computer keyboards has something to do with this.

Home Takeovers

Although many people think they pick their cats, in reality, kitties often choose us. Many of our feline patients have gotten adopted simply by showing up at someone’s doorstep. Other cats have recruited their families at shelters by grabbing them with a paw, or just walking up to them.

Ferocious Felines

Although cats are very, very good at getting us to pamper them, they don’t need us as much as many other domesticated animals do. Our furry buddies are amazing predators, and are extremely self-sufficient. In fact, cats more or less tricked us into adopting them. Fluffy is also not above using cute tactics like purring and cuddling to wrap us around her paws.

Manipulative Pets

As it turns out, cats have been bossing us around for quite some time. In fact, our feline overlords may have started meowing specifically so they could give us orders. Adult cats rarely talk to each other. They communicate mostly through body language, tail position, and facial expressions. So why do kitties meow at us? It seems that they figured out long ago that making cute mewling sounds—which just happen to remind us of the noises human babies make—is a great way to get us to feed them and offer them warm, comfy beds. Well played, Fluffy. Well played!
